VB-SDLS stands for Speed Depending Leveling System, this means that the higher the vehicle speed the ride height will go lower.
Power versus Resistance
Vehicles need horsepower to go. Horsepower comes from the engine and if more horsepower needed the fuel consumption will raise and also the CO2 emission. The amount of horsepower versus the vehicle weight and some other resistances are responsible for giving the vehicle a certain acceleration and speed. And in the end of course the maximum speed at “full throttle “.
Important resistance components are the losses in the power train, roll resistance (tires and tire pressure) and the most important wind resistance (vehicle shape and front surface of the vehicle). The loss in the power train are due to the gearbox and losses in the drive shafts. These losses are quiet stable and almost always a fixed percentage that only slightly increases by increasing the vehicle speed. On the other hand wind resistance is stark depending on the vehicle speed. Roll resistance is quit linear (by increasing the speed) where the wind resistance is stark progressive (by increasing the speed it even increases quadratic). If we take a look why a vehicle with 174hp (without any changes) reaches 200 km/h en we reach with 800hp only a speed of 310,7 km/h we all understand that really something is happening with the resistance. Like mentioned before the most important resistance is the wind resistance, by using the VB-SDLS we can decrease this very much.
Why not lowering all vehicles, then we are ready?
No, vehicles still has to be able to pass sleeping policemen and to a certain speed also should be driven easy, comfortable and safe. Below 80 km/h the standard ride height is a wish, the vehicle is comfortable with a spring travel off app. 7 to 8 cm. Speed is low, but also all resistance. With relatively low fuel consumption there will be a good balance between speed and power and the CO2 emission is low.
From 120 km/h a lower ride height and a little stiffer suspension is for the most applications safer and more stable. There is only a low, negative effect on the comfort. Resistances start to increase and from all the wind resistance has already a strong effect at this speed and therefore also on the fuel consumption and CO2 emission.
From 220 km/h and upwards the wind resistance is so high that it already looks like you are driving against a wall of wind resistance. Like everybody can imagine, if you , at this speed, could take something from the wind resistance away at the same horsepower you immediately would have an increase in speed or at the same speed a decrease of fuel consumption and therefore less CO2 emission.

The reason that VB-Airsuspension took part in the TH2RS world speed record was to show that the VB-SDLS really works. The final reason is of course to make the ordinary light commercial vehicle more stable, safer and cleaner for the environment. The VB-SDLS in near future shall finds its way
in campingcars, ambulances, horse vehicles and other applications for certain loads.
