SPECIAL PARTS: Optimised shock absorbers

A good suspension system must provide both spring force and damping, so that the vehicle feels both stable and comfortable to drive. In order to achieve this, each vehicle is fitted with suspension (coil spring suspension, leaf suspension or torsion bar suspension) and shock absorbers. The suspension under the vehicle ensures that passengers and/or the cargo do not feel every bump in the road surface.

The shock absorbers damp the movement of the suspension; without shock absorbers the vehicle would continue to pitch and roll. Perhaps the most important function of the shock absorbers is to ensure that the wheels remain in contact with the surface of the road. This is very important for the driveability and handling of the vehicle, and thus for its safety.

The right balance between comfort and stability

With standard shock absorbers, there is often a trade-off between stability and comfort. More stability typically means less comfort and vice versa. At VB-Airsuspension, we believe this shouldn’t have to be a compromise. That’s why we offer shock absorbers that work in combination with our air suspension systems to create the right balance between comfort and control.

Heavy duty and variable shock absorbers

We offer two types of shock absorbers:

  • Variable shock absorbers
  • Heavy-duty shock absorbers

Both types provide added value compared to standard shock absorbers, especially for vehicles with heavy or variable loads. Depending on the vehicle and its application, we offer a suitable shock absorber solution.

Variable shock absorbers

The variable shock absorber uses a mechanical system that enables it to vary its own damping force. This directly results in more comfortable driving behaviour, improved stability, enhanced safety, and fewer vibrations and secondary noises, as irregularities in the road surface are less noticeable inside the vehicle.

Heavy-duty shock absorbers

Heavy-duty shock absorbers are specially developed to improve the driving behaviour of heavily loaded vehicles. Unlike adaptive systems, these shock absorbers have fixed, optimised damping that ensures control and stability. This results in noticeably more stable driving behaviour, reduced swaying, and greater confidence behind the wheel, especially under heavier or constant loads.

BENEFITS OF OPTIMISED SHOCK ABSORBERS COMBINED WITH AIRSUSPENSION

  • More comfortable driving characteristics
  • Improved stability
  • Unevenness in the road surface not felt so distinctly in the vehicle
  • Less vibration
  • Less background noise
